٥٨٥٩ - وَعَنْ عَلَيِّ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: كَانَتْ لِي مَنْزِلَةٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمْ تَكُنْ لِأَحَدٍ مِنَ الْخَلَائِقِ، فَكُنْتُ آتِيهِ بِأَعْلَى سَحَر1ٍ فَأَقُولُ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، فَإِنْ تَنَحْنَحَ انْصَرَفْتُ إِلَى أَهْلِي، وَإِلَّا دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ. رَوَاهُ النَّسَائِيُّ.

If he cleared his throat, with or without responding to the greeting, based on whether responding to a permission greeting is obligatory or not. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله: بأعلى سحر : أي بأول أوقاته. وقوله: فأقول: السلام عليك يا نبي الله، أي سلام استئذان، فإن تنحنح، أي مع جواب السلام أو بدونه بناء على أن سلام الاستئذان هل له جواب واجب أو لا؟ كذا في «المرقاة».
