Chapter on Recitation in Prayer

Zujajat al-Masabih 1146Volume 1

English

On the authority of Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished a prayer in which he had recited aloud, and he said: "Did any of you recite with me just now?" A man said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "I was wondering why I was being contended with in my recitation." After that, people refrained from reciting aloud in the prayers where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited aloud. [Narrated by Al-Nasa’i, Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ahmad, Malik, and Muhammad whileIbn Majah narrated a similar report] Al-Nasa’i said: "This indicates refraining from recitation behind the imam in prayers where he recites aloud."
