Opening narrations

English

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported regarding Allah’s words "for whoever is able to find thereto a way" (3:97): Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is 'a way'?" He replied: "Provisions and a mount." [Narrated by Al-Hakim, who declared it ṣahiḥ by the criteria of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, though they did not include it. Hammad ibn Salamah also narrated it via Qatadah from Anas] Other narrations from Ibn ʿUmar, Ibn ʿAbbas, ʿAʾishah, Jabir, ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs, and Ibn Masʿud (may Allah be pleased with them) strengthen this interpretation. ʿIkrimah added: "The 'way' means good health."
