Hadith 3119a

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that she said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is the thing that is not lawful to withhold?” He said: “Water, salt, and fire.” She said: “O Messenger of Allah, we understand water, but what about salt and fire?” He said: “O little red one, whoever gives fire is as if he gave charity with all that the fire cooked. Whoever gives salt is as if he gave charity with all that the salt seasoned. Whoever gives a Muslim a drink of water where water is available, it is as if he freed a slave. Whoever gives a Muslim a drink of water where water is not available, it is as if he brought him to life.”
