English

Ya‘ish ibn Takhfah ibn Qays al-Ghifari, from his father (may Allah be pleased with him), who was among the people of the Suffah, narrated: “While I was lying on my stomach at dawn, a man nudged me with his foot and said, ‘This 1 is a manner of lying that Allah dislikes.’ I looked, and it was the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).”

Note 1

This is a manner of lying that Allah dislikes

(1) His statement: “This is a manner of lying that Allah dislikes”: Because placing the chest and face, which are among the noblest parts, on the ground is degrading outside of prostration, or this manner of lying resembles the posture of sodomy, and resembling them is blameworthy. As stated in Al-Mirqat. It is said in Al-Alamgiriyyah: “If one is full and fears stomach pain, there is no issue with placing a pillow under the stomach and sleeping on it.” I say: This Hadith does not contradict it, as Al-Qari (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Al-Mirqat: “Perhaps his excuse was not apparent to him, or because it is possible to lie on the thighs to relieve pain without extending the legs.”
