English

Abdur-Rahman ibn Abi Uqbah from his father Abu Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a freed slave from Persia, narrated: I witnessed Uhud with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and struck a polytheist man, saying, “Take this from me, the Persian youth.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned to me and said: “Why not say: Take this from me, the Ansari youth? 1”

Note 1

the Ansari youth

(1) His statement: “the Ansari youth”: meaning, if you boast when striking, attribute yourself to the Ansar, to whom I migrated and who supported me. Persians at that time were disbelievers, so he disliked attribution to them and commanded attribution to the Ansar, to associate with Muslims. [As stated in Al-Mirqat]
