English
Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: He allocated 1 for Usamah ibn Zayd three thousand five hundred, and for Abdullah ibn Umar three thousand. Abdullah ibn Umar said to his father: “Why have you preferred Usamah over me? By Allah, he has not surpassed me in any battle.” He said: “Because Zayd was more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) than your father, and Usamah was more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) than you, so I preferred the love of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) over my own love.”

Note 1
(1) The statement “allocated”: Meaning, Umar allocated for Abdullah ibn Umar, his son, indeed his most beloved son. The statement “because Zayd”: Meaning, Usamah’s father was more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) than your father. This indicates, as previously mentioned, that greater love does not necessarily imply greater superiority. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
Note 1
