English

Ya’la ibn Umayyah reported: "I said to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): ‘Allah says: “There is no blame on you for shortening the prayers if you fear persecution” (Qur’an 4:101), but people are now safe.’ Umar replied: ‘I wondered the same, so I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), who said: “It is a charity Allah has bestowed upon you; accept His charity.” 1

Note 1

accept His charity

(1) The phrase “accept His charity” implies obligation, supporting Abu Hanifah’s view that shortening prayers is mandatory, while completing them is improper. – Al-Mirqat.

Note 1
