Ibn Sakhbarah reported: "We were sitting with Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) waiting for a funeral when another funeral passed by, so we stood up. Ali said, 'Why are you standing?' I said, 'What do you teach us, O companions of Muhammad?' Abu Musa said, 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When you see the funeral of a Muslim, a Jew, or a Christian, stand up, for you are not standing for it but for the angels accompanying it."' Ali said, 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) only did that once. He used to imitate the People of the Book in some matters, but when he was prohibited from it, he abandoned it.'"

ہوجاتی تھی، اس کو آپ ترک فرما دیتے تھے (رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا جنازہ کو دیکھ کر کھڑے ہونا اہل کتاب کی مشابہت سے تھا کہ اہل کتاب جنازہ کو دیکھ کر کھڑے ہو جایا کرتے تھے، پھر جب آپ کو جنازہ دیکھ کر کھڑے ہونے کی ممانعت کی گئی تو باوجود یہ کہ اس میں فرشتوں کی تعظیم تھی مگر ممانعت کی وجہ سے آپ جنازہ کو دیکھ کر کھڑے ہونا ترک فرما دئے، اس لئے جنازہ دیکھ کر کھڑے ہونا منسوخ ہوگیا۔) اس حدیث کی روایت امام طحاوی نے کی ہے۔
