Opening narrations

Zujajat al-Masabih 247Volume 1

English

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "If the people of knowledge had safeguarded their knowledge and placed it with those who deserved it, they would have dominated the people of their time. But instead, they gave it to the people of the world to gain from their worldly affairs, and so it became trivialized for them. I heard your Prophet (ﷺ) say: 'Whoever makes his concerns one concern, the concern of his Hereafter, Allah will take care of his worldly concerns. And whoever is overwhelmed with the various concerns of this world, Allah will not care in which valley he perishes.'"

[Narrated by Ibn Majah and also by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman from the statement of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).]
