Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A servant committed a sin and said, ‘O Lord, I have sinned, so forgive me.’ His Lord said, ‘Does My servant know that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them? I have forgiven My servant.’ Then the servant remained for as long as Allah willed before committing another sin and saying, ‘O Lord, I have sinned again, so forgive me.’ His Lord said, ‘Does My servant know that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them? I have forgiven My servant.’ Then the servant remained for as long as Allah willed before committing another sin and saying, ‘O Lord, I have sinned again, so forgive me.’ His Lord said, ‘Does My servant know that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them? I have forgiven My servant—let him do as he wills.’"
