Chapter: The Story of the Farewell Pilgrimage

Zujajat al-Masabih 3010Volume 2

English

‘Abdullah ibn Malik ibn al-Harith narrated: "I prayed Maghrib (three Rak‘ahs) and ‘Isha (two Rak‘ahs) with Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) with one Iqamah. Malik ibn al-Harith asked him, ‘What is this prayer?’ He replied, ‘I prayed them with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in this place with one Iqamah.’"

Note 1

What is this prayer?

(1) His statement: "What is this prayer?"—the question arose because praying with one Iqamah was unusual (Badhl al-Majhud).

Note 2

With one Iqamah

(2) His statement: "With one Iqamah"—this refutes those who claim two Iqamahs were given, as combining prayers was common during travel. The question was due to the single Iqamah (Badhl al-Majhud).

Note 1
