Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was striking my slave when I heard a voice from behind me: "Know, Abu Mas’ud, Allah has more power over you than you have over him." I turned, and it was the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I said, "O Messenger of Allah, he is free for the sake of Allah." He said, "Had you not done so, the Fire would have scorched you or touched you."
