English
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cut down 2 the palm trees of Banu an-Nadir and burned them. For this, Hassan said: The nobles of Banu Lu’ayy found it easy, the blazing fire at Buwayrah spreading.
For this, the verse was revealed: “Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks, it was by permission of Allah” [Qur’an 59:5].

Note 2
(2) The statement: “cut down the palm trees of Banu an-Nadir and burned them, etc.”: Ibn al-Humam said: This is permissible to weaken Allah’s enemies and break their strength. They may burn, cut trees, or destroy crops, but if it is evident they are defeated and victory is clear, this is disliked as it is destruction without necessity, which is only permitted for need. As stated in (Al-Mirqat).
