Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: Umar said: On the day of Khaybar, a group of the Prophet’s Companions came, saying: “So-and-so is a martyr, so-and-so is a martyr,” until they passed a man and said: “So-and-so is a martyr.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “No, I saw him in the Fire for a cloak or mantle he misappropriated.” Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “O Ibn al-Khattab, go and announce among the people three times: ‘Only the believers enter Paradise.’” 1 I went out and announced three times: “Indeed, only the believers enter Paradise.”

Note 1
(1) The statement: “Only the believers enter Paradise”: Ibn al-Malik said: In customary usage, a believer is one who believes in Muhammad (ﷺ) and what he brought. One who misappropriates is as if he did not believe him, failing to act on his belief, so the Prophet (ﷺ) did not count him among the believers to deter others. As stated in (Al-Mirqat).
