Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Among my nation, there are those who will intercede for a large group, some who will intercede for a tribe, some who will intercede for a smaller group 1, and some who will intercede for a single person, until they enter Paradise.”

Note 1
(1) His statement: “Among my nation”: Meaning some individuals from among the scholars, martyrs, and righteous. His statement: “until they enter Paradise” refers to the entire nation. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
Note 2
(2) His statement: “for a smaller group”: Pronounced with a dammah on the ‘ayn and a sukoon on the sad, it refers to a group of ten to forty men, with no singular form. The apparent meaning is that it refers to a group, even as few as two, based on the phrase “and some who will intercede for a single person.” It is possible to say that what lies between the smaller group and the single person is omitted, as the single person clearly indicates one, just as it may subtly indicate a woman. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
Note 1
(۱) قوله: من أمتي: أي بعض أفرادهم من العلماء والشهداء والصلحاء. وقوله حتى يدخلوا الجنة أي الأمة كلهم. كذا في «المرقاة».
Note 2
(۲) قوله: للعصبة بضم فسكون، وهو ما بين العشرة إلى الأربعين من الرجال لا واحد لها من لفظها، والأظهر أن المراد بها جمع، ولو اثنان لقوله ومنهم من يشفع للرجل، ويمكن أن يقال: طوى ما بين العصبة، والرجل لما يدل عليه الرجل بالبرهان الجلي، كما يدل على المرأة بالقياس الخفي. كذا في «المرقاة».
