Jabir bin Samurah reported: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite in Asr ‘By the sky containing great stars’ (Surah Al-Buruj) and ‘By the sky and the night comer’ (Surah Al-Tariq) or similar surahs." [Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood]
This indicates that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite in the two units of Asr from the middle-length surahs of Al-Mufassal, as mentioned in "Umdat Al-Ri’ayah" and "Al-‘Inayah."

۱۲۰۸ - وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ (رضي الله عنه): أَنَّ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْعَصْرِ بِ السَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوج)، وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ وَشِبْهِهِمَا. رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ.
فَدَلَّ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي رَكْعَتَيْ الْعَصْرِ بِأَوْسَاطِ الْمُفَصَّلِ، كَمَا أُشِيْرَ إِلَيْهِ في عُمْدَةِ الرَّعَايَةِ» وَالْعِنَايَةِ».

ف: یہ حدیث اس بات پر دلالت کرتی ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عصر کی پہلی دو رکعتوں میں اوساط مفصل پڑھا کرتے تھے جیسا کہ عمدۃ الرعایہ اور عنایہ میں مذکور ہے اور اوساط مفصل سے مراد ”سورہ بروج“ سے ”سورہ لم یکن“ تک کی تمام سورتیں ہیں اور ان میں ”لم یکن“ شامل نہیں ہے۔ (ملتقی، شرح وقایہ)۔
