Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "People are like mines of gold and silver. The best of them in the pre-Islamic period are the best of them in Islam if they gain understanding (of the religion)."

۱۹۱ - وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «النَّاسُ مَعَادِنُ كَمَعَادِنِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ، خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةَ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ إِذَا فَقُهُوا». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے انہوں نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے
فرمایا: لوگ معدن (یعنی کان) ہیں (یعنی صفات و اخلاق کے اعتبار سے کمی و بیشی کا درجہ رکھتے ہیں)
جیسے سونے اور چاندی کے کان (معادن ہیں) جاہلیت میں جو نیک تھے وہ اسلام میں بھی نیک ہیں
جب کہ وہ دین کی سمجھ پیدا کرلیں۔ (اس کی روایت مسلم نے کی ہے)۔
