٢١٠٩ - وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ1 عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ فَأَخْلِصُوا لَهُ الدُّعَاءَ». رَوَاهُ أَبُوْ دَاوُدَ وَابْنُ مَاجَه.

(1) His statement: "When you pray over the deceased..." This means that reciting the Qur'an is neither obligatory nor recommended in the funeral prayer according to us, i.e., with the intention of recitation. However, if one recites Al-Fatihah with the intention of praise, it is permissible. This is mentioned in Al-Ashbah. The basis for this is this hadith, as stated in Umdat ar-Ri'ayah.
