Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "How many people fast and gain nothing from their fast except hunger, and how many people pray at night and gain nothing from their prayer except sleeplessness."

٢٤٦٠ - وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ : كَمْ مِنْ صَائِمٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ صِيَامِهِ إِلَّا الظَّمَأُ، وَكَمْ مِنْ قَائِم لَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ قِيَامِهِ إِلَّا السَّهَرُ». رَوَاهُ الدَّارِيُّ.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے وہ فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ
وآلہ وسلم ارشاد فرمائے ہیں بہت سے روزہ دار (جو جھوٹ، غیبت وغیرہ سے پرہیز نہیں کرتے) ایسے
ہیں کہ جن کو ان کے روزے سے سوائے (بھوکا) پیاسا رہنے کے اور کچھ حاصل نہیں ہوتا، اور بہت
سے شب بیدار عبادت کرنے والے (جو ارکان وآداب نماز کا خیال نہیں رکھتے) ایسے ہیں جن کو
(شب بیداری سے) سوائے جاگنے کے کچھ حاصل نہیں ہوتا۔
اس کی روایت دارمی نے کی ہے۔
