Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When a believer sins, a black spot appears on his heart. If he repents, stops, and seeks forgiveness, his heart is polished clean. But if he persists, the spot grows—that is the ‘stain’ Allah mentioned: ‘No! Rather, their hearts have been stained by what they used to earn.’ (Al-Mutaffifin 83:14)"
