English
‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The pen is lifted (i.e., accountability is waived) for three: a sleeping person until he wakes up, a child until he reaches puberty, and an insane person until he regains sanity." [Narrated by Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]
Ad-Darimi narrated it from ‘Aishah, and Ibn Majah narrated it from both.

Note 1
(1) The statement: "The pen is lifted for three..."—Therefore, Fath al-Qadir states: "The divorce of a child is not valid, even if he comprehends. The same applies to an insane person, a sleeping person, and a ma’tuh, as they are like the insane."
