English

Abu Hurayra narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Allah has undertaken for whoever goes out in His way, driven only by faith in Me and belief in My messengers, that I will either return him with reward or spoil, or admit him to Paradise.
Commentary and footnotes (2)

Note 1

(1) Regarding the saying: That I return him with reward or spoil, or admit him to Paradise: Al-Tayyibi said: ‘Or spoil’ is conjoined with ‘reward,’ and ‘admit him’ with ‘return him,’ as the predicate of ‘that.’ The meaning is: Allah answers the one who goes out in His way, either returning him to his home with reward alone, reward with spoil, or being martyred and entering Paradise. [Al-Marqah]
