Simplicity is from faith, simplicity is from faith. 1 [Narrated by Abu Dawud] In a narration by Abu Dawud from Suwaid ibn Wahb, from a man among the sons of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) Companions, from his father: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever refrains from wearing a beautiful garment though able to— in another narration— out of humility, Allah will clothe him with the robe of honor, and whoever marries for Allah, Allah will crown him with the crown of sovereignty. Note 1
(1) The statement: Simplicity is from faith: The Hadith means that humility in clothing and avoiding excessive adornment is among the qualities of the people of faith, and faith motivates it. So it is in Al-Marqah. It is said in Radd Al-Muhtar: Know that some clothing is disliked, which is wearing for pride.
