Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Do not extol me 1 as the Christians extolled the son of Mary, for I am only His servant, so say: the servant of Allah and His Messenger.”

٤٧٠٥ - وَعَنْ عُمَرَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ : «لَا تُطْرُونِي1 كَمَا أَطْرَتِ النَّصَارَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ، فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا عَبْدُهُ فَقُولُوا: عَبْدُ وَرَسُولُهُ». مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے انہوں نے کہا: کہ رسول اللہ
صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم مجھے ایسا مت 1 بڑھاؤ جیسا کہ نصاریٰ نے ابن مریم (یعنی عیسیٰ علیہ السلام)
کو بڑھایا کیونکہ میں تو اس کا بندہ ہی ہوں پس تم عبداللہ اور اس کے رسول یعنی رسول اللہ بولو۔ (متفق علیہ)۔

(1) His statement: “Do not extol me…”: Its implication is that extolling him differently from theirs is permissible. How well the author of Al-Burdah said: “Leave what the Christians claim about their prophet… and judge as you wish in praise of him and decide.” [As stated in Al-Mirqat]
