Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever.” 1

(1) His statement: “A prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever”: It is like a prison for the believer compared to the reward and eternal bliss prepared for him in the Hereafter, and like a paradise for the disbeliever compared to the punishment and painful torment prepared for him in the Hereafter. (As stated in Al-Mirqat.)

(۱) قوله: سجن المؤمن وجنة الكافر : أي كالسجن للمؤمن في جنب ما أعد له في الآخرة من الثواب والنعيم المقيم، وكالجنة للكافر في جنب ما أعد له في الآخرة من العقوبة والعذاب الأليم. كذا في «المرقاة».
