Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The first righteousness of this Ummah is certainty 1 and asceticism, and the first corruption of it is stinginess and aspiration."
(1) His statement: Certainty: Meaning in the matter of the Hereafter. His statement: "And asceticism," meaning in the affair of the world. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
