Wathilah ibn al-Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “Indeed, Allah chose Kinanah from the descendants of Ismail, and chose Quraysh from Kinanah, and chose Banu Hashim from Quraysh, and chose me from Banu Hashim.” [Narrated by Muslim]
In a narration by At-Tirmidhi: “Indeed, Allah chose Ismail from the descendants of Ibrahim, and chose Banu Kinanah from the descendants of Ismail.”

٥٥١٦ - وَعَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَى كِنَانَةَ مِنْ وَلَدِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَاصْطَفَى قُرَيْشًا مِنْ كِنَانَةَ، وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَاصْطَفَانِي مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لِلتَّرْمِذِيِّ: «إِنَّ اللهَ اصْطَفَى مِنْ وَلَدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَاصْطَفَى مِنْ وَلَدِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بَنِي كِنَانَةَ».

حضرت واثلہ بن اسقع رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے فرمایا: میں رسول اللہ
صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ارشاد فرماتے سنا ہوں اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت اسماعیل کی اولاد میں سے کنانہ کا
انتخاب کیا اور کنانہ میں سے قریش کا انتخاب فرمایا اور قریش میں سے بنی ہاشم کا انتخاب کیا اور بنی ہاشم
میں سے میرا انتخاب فرمایا۔ (مسلم)۔
اور ترمذی کی ایک روایت میں ہے اللہ نے ابراہیم علیہ السلام کی اولاد میں سے
اسماعیل کا انتخاب فرمایا اور اسماعیل کی اولاد میں سے کنانہ کا انتخاب فرمایا۔ (ترمذی)۔
