Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whoever falsely attributes to me what I did not say, let him take his seat in the Fire.” This was because 1 he sent a man who lied about him, so the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) invoked against him, and he was found dead with his belly split open, and the earth did not accept him.

(1) His statement “This was because”: meaning the reason for this Hadith’s narration. His statement “who lied about him”: meaning about the Prophet (ﷺ), and it was revealed to him by the light of prophethood or through news that reached him. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله : وذلك: أي وسبب ورود هذا الحديث. وقوله: فكذب عليه ، أي على النبي ، وانكشف له بنور النبوة أو بلغه خبره. كذا في «المرقاة».
