Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “It is not fitting for a people among whom is Abu Bakr that anyone else 1 should lead them.” [Narrated by At-Tirmidhi]
The Shaykh said in Al-Lama’at: This is evidence of his superiority in religion over all companions, so his precedence in the caliphate was also preferable and superior. For this, Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtada (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) advanced you in our religious matters, so who would delay you in our worldly matters?

٥٧٨٧ - وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ (رضي الله عنها) قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا يَنْبَغِي لِقَوْمٍ فِيهِمْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَنْ يَؤُمَهُمْ1 غَيْرُهُ. رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ.
قَالَ الشَّيْخُ فِي اللَّمْعَاتِ»: فِيْهِ دَلِيْلٌ عَلَى فَضْلِهِ فِي الدِّيْنِ عَلَى جَمِيعِ الصَّحَابَةِ، فَكَانَ تَقْدِيمُهُ فِي الْخِلَافَةِ أَيْضًا أَوْلَى وَأَفْضَلَ، وَلِهَذَا قَالَ سَيِّدُنَا عَلِيُّ الْمُرْتَضَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: قَدَّمَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي أَمْرِ دِيْنِنَا، فَمَنْ الَّذِي يُؤَخِّرُكَ دُنْيَانَا.

(1) His statement “that anyone else should lead them”: This is evidence that he is the most virtuous of all companions. Thus, his entitlement to the caliphate is established, as it is not fitting to appoint the less virtuous as caliph when the more virtuous is present. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله : إن يؤمهم غيره فيه دليل على أنه أفضل جميع الصحابة، فإذا ثبت هذا فقد ثبت استحقاق الخلافة، ولا ينبغي أن يجعل المفضول خليفة مع وجود الفاضل. كذا في «المرقاة».

شیخ نے لمعات میں فرمایا: یہ حدیث شریف دین میں تمام صحابہ پر آپ کی فضیلت کی دلیل ہے اور خلافت میں بھی آپ کی تقدم اولی وافضل ہے اسی لئے سیدنا علی مرتضی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: تمہارے دین کے معاملہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے آپ کو مقدم کیا کون ہے وہ جو آپ کو ہمارے دنیا کے معاملہ میں مؤخر کرے۔

(11) قوله: ان يؤمهم غيره۔ اس میں دلیل ہے کہ آپ تمام صحابہ میں افضل ہیں اور جب یہ بات ثابت ہے تو استحقاق خلافت بھی آپ کے لئے ثابت ہے کیونکہ فاضل کے ہوتے ہوئے مفضول کو خلیفہ نہیں بنانا چاہئے۔(مرقات)
