Zujajat al-Masabih 5890Volume 5

English

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stayed awake one night upon his arrival 1 in Madinah and said: “If only a righteous man would guard me tonight.” We heard the sound of weapons, and he said: “Who is this?” Sa’d said: “It is I.” He asked: “What brought you?” He replied: “I felt fear for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so I came to guard him.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for him, then slept.

Note 1

upon his arrival in Madinah

(1) The statement “upon his arrival in Madinah”: At-Tibi said: The word “arrival” is a verbal noun, not a time adverb, carried by “in Madinah” and used as an adverb by implying a suppressed term, i.e., the time or period. “Night” is a substitute for the implied term, meaning he stayed awake one night during the time of his arrival in Madinah from some expeditions. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

Note 1

قوله

(۱) قوله : مقدمه المدينة إلخ : قال الطيبي: قوله: «مقدمه» مصدر ميمي ليس بظرف لحمله في المدينة ونصبه على الظرفية على تقدير مضاف، وهو الوقت أو الزمان وليلة بدل البعض من المقدر، أي سهر ليلة من الليالي وقت قدومه المدينة من بعض الغزوات. كذا في «المرقاة».
