Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to his companions: When your brothers were struck at Uhud, Allah placed their souls in the bellies of green birds that drink from Paradise’s rivers, eat its fruits, and return to golden lanterns hanging in the shade of the Throne. When they found the delight of their food, drink, and resting place, they said: Who will inform our brothers that we are alive in Paradise, provided for, so they do not disdain jihad or falter in war? Allah, Exalted is He, said: I will inform them about you. So Allah revealed: And do not think those killed in Allah’s way are dead; rather, they are alive [Aal-E-Imran: 169], to the end of the verses.
