Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Two men among those who entered the Fire cried out intensely. The Lord, Exalted is He, said, ‘Take them out.’ He said to them, ‘Why did you cry out so intensely?’ They said, ‘We did so that You might have mercy on us.’ He said, ‘My mercy for you is that you go and throw yourselves back where you were in the Fire.’ One of them throws himself in, and He makes it cool and safe for him. The other stands and does not throw himself in. The Lord, Exalted is He, says to him, ‘What prevented you from throwing yourself in as your companion did?’ He says, ‘O my Lord 1, I hope that You will not return me to it after having taken me out.’ The Lord, Exalted is He, says to him, ‘You shall have your hope.’ So both enter Paradise by the mercy of Allah.”
