Chapter on What is Not Permissible During Prayer and What is Allowed

Zujajat al-Masabih 1344Volume 1

English

Zaid ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We used to speak during prayer, with a man talking to his companion next to him in prayer, until the verse was revealed: "And stand before Allah in devotion" (Al-Baqarah: 238). We were then commanded to remain silent and forbidden from speaking. [Narrated by Muslim] In "Jami' Al-Athar": The generality of speech and its incompatibility with the seriousness of prayer includes all speech.
