Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We used to greet the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he was praying, and he would respond to us. When we returned from the Negus, we greeted him, but he did not respond. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we used to greet you during prayer, and you would respond to us." He said, "Indeed, prayer is a serious matter."
