Chapter on What is Not Permissible During Prayer and What is Allowed

Zujajat al-Masabih 1355Volume 1

English

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Last night, a devil from the jinn tried to interrupt my prayer, but Allah gave me power over him. I seized him and wanted to tie him to a pillar in the mosque so all of you could see him, but I remembered the supplication of my brother Sulaiman: 'My Lord, grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me,' so I let him go, humiliated." [Agreed upon] Ibn Al-Malik said: This indicates that the devil himself is not impure, and touching him does not invalidate the prayer. It also shows that a person's prayer is not invalidated by thoughts unrelated to it.
