Chapter: The Etiquette of Reciting the Qur'an

Zujajat al-Masabih 2656Volume 2

English

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me while he was on the pulpit: 'Recite to me.' I said: 'Shall I recite to you when it was revealed to you?' He said: 'I love to hear it from others.' So I recited Surah an-Nisa' to him until I reached the verse: 'How will it be when We bring from every nation a witness and bring you as a witness against these?' (4:41) He said: 'That is enough for now.' I turned to him and his eyes were overflowing with tears."

Note 1

I love to hear it, etc.

(1) His statement: "I love to hear it, etc." Listening to the Qur'an is more rewarding than reciting it. This is in the poem of Ibn Wahban. This was mentioned in Al-Ashbah in the book of prohibition and permission.

Note 1
