Chapter: Seeking Forgiveness and Repentance

English

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "There were two men among the Children of Israel who were brothers—one was devout in worship, and the other was a sinner. The devout one kept saying to the sinner, ‘Stop what you are doing!’ The sinner replied, ‘Leave me alone with my Lord!’ One day, the devout man found the sinner committing a major sin and said, ‘Stop!’ The sinner again said, ‘Leave me alone with my Lord! Were you sent as a watcher over me?’ The devout man said, ‘By Allah, Allah will never forgive you, nor will He admit you to Paradise.’ Allah took their souls, and they were brought before Him. He said to the sinner, ‘Enter Paradise by My mercy.’ Then He said to the devout man, ‘Can you withhold My mercy from My servant?’ The man said, ‘No, O Lord.’ Allah said, ‘Take him to the Fire.’"
