‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) would stay with Zaynab bint Jahsh and drink honey at her place. She and Hafsah agreed that whichever of them the Prophet (ﷺ) visited would say, "I detect the smell of maghafir (a foul-smelling gum) on you. Have you eaten maghafir?" When he visited one of them, she said this to him. He replied, "No, I drank honey at Zaynab bint Jahsh’s, but I will not do it again." Then the verse was revealed: "O Prophet, why do you prohibit what Allah has made lawful for you?" (66:1)
