Note 1
(1) The statement: He was flogged with the prescribed punishment, then informed he was married, so ordered stoned: In Rahmat al-Umma: Is flogging combined with stoning? Abu Hanifa, Malik, and al-Shafi‘i said: No, only stoning is required. Ahmad has two narrations, the more apparent combining them. This hadith does not combine flogging and stoning, as the Prophet (ﷺ) was not informed of his marriage until after flogging. It indicates that if the Imam orders a punishment and it becomes clear another is required, he must apply the legally mandated one. (Gathered from Al-Mirqat)
