Abu Usayd al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, as he was leaving the mosque and men mixed with women on the path, to the women: “Stay back, for it is not for you to walk in the middle of the path. Keep to the sides of the path.” So a woman would cling to the wall until her garment would catch on it.
