Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When one of you sneezes, let him say, 1 ‘Praise be to Allah,’ and let his brother or companion say to him, ‘May Allah have mercy on you.’ When he says, ‘May Allah have mercy on you,’ let him say, ‘May Allah guide you and rectify your condition.’”

٤٥٥٩ - وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: «إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ : 1 الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلْيَقُلْ لَهُ أَخُوهُ أَوْ صَاحِبُهُ : يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، فَإِذَا قَالَ لَهُ: يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ فَلْيَقُلْ: يَهْدِيكُمُ اللهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ». رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ.

صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب تم میں کوئی چھینکے1 تو الحمدلله کہے اور اس کا بھائی یا اس کا ساتھی اس کو
يرحمك الله کہے اور جب وہ اس کو يرحمك الله کہے تو یہ چھینکنے والا يهديكم الله ويصلح
بالكم کہے (اللہ تم کو ہدایت پر رکھے اور تمہارے معاملہ کو ٹھیک کرے)۔ (بخاری)۔

(1) His statement: “let him say, ‘Praise be to Allah’”: That is, it is recommended. As stated in Al-Mirqat. In Al-Alamgiriyyah: “If a man sneezes outside of prayer, he should praise Allah, saying, ‘Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds,’ or ‘Praise be to Allah, may Allah forgive us and you,’ or ‘May Allah guide you and rectify your condition,’ and not say other than that.” As stated in Al-Muhit.
