Ka‘b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he said to the Prophet (ﷺ), “Allah, the Exalted, has revealed about poetry what He has revealed.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The believer strives with his sword and his tongue. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, it is as if you strike them with it like a shower of arrows.” [Narrated in Sharh As-Sunnah] In Al-Isti‘ab by Ibn Abdul-Barr, he said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is your view on poetry?” He replied, “The believer strives with his sword and his tongue.”
