Note 1
Among what people have acquired from the words of the earlier prophethood
(1) His statement: “Among what people have acquired from the words of the earlier prophethood”: “People” is in the nominative case, and “from” indicates partitivity. The meaning is that among the sayings of the people of earlier prophethood—previous prophets and messengers—it is attributed to them to indicate it stems from revelation. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
Note 2
Then do as you wish
(2) His statement: “Then do as you wish”: The deterrent from what is improper is modesty. If modesty is absent, everything improper may occur. The command here is either a statement or a command for warning. It is cited:
If you fear not the consequences of nights, nor feel shame, then do as you wish.
By Allah, there is no good in life or in the world when modesty is gone.
An-Nawawi preferred that the command is for permissibility, meaning: If you intend to do something and do not feel shame before Allah and people, then do it; otherwise, refrain. The essence is that if you feel no shame in doing something, it indicates its permissibility. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
