Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “What I fear most for my nation is desire and prolonged hopes. Desire turns one away from the truth, and prolonged hopes make one forget the Hereafter. This world is departing, and the Hereafter is approaching. Each has its children. If you can, do not be among the children of this world, for today you are in the abode of action without reckoning, and tomorrow you will be in the abode of the Hereafter without action.”

[Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Iman]
