Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The prophets were presented to me 1, and I saw Moses, a man of lean build 2, as if he were from the men of Shanua. I saw Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him), and the one most resembling him was Urwah ibn Mas’ud. I saw Abraham (peace be upon him), and the one most resembling him was your companion—meaning himself. I saw Gabriel (peace be upon him), and the one most resembling him was Dihyah ibn Khalifah.”

٥٤٩٥ - وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ (رضي الله عنه) أَنَّ رَسُوْلَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «عُرِضَ1 عَلَيَّ الْأَنْبِيَاءُ فَإِذَا مُوسَى ضَرْبٌ2 مِنَ الرِّجَالِ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ رِجَالِ شَنُوءَةَ، وَرَأَيْتُ عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ(عليه السلام) ، فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَأَيْتُ بِهِ شَبَهَا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، وَرَأَيْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ - صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ، فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَأَيْتُ بِهِ شَبَهَا صَاحِبُكُمْ - يَعْنِي نَفْسَهُ - وَرَأَيْتُ جِبْرِيلَ(عليه السلام) ، فَإِذَا أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَأَيْتُ بِهِ شَبَهَا دَحْيَةُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةً». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

نے فرمایا: میرے پاس انبیاء علیہم السلام پیش کئے گئے1 تو موسیٰ علیہ السلام کو دیکھا کہ2 وہ حضرات
میانہ قد کے ہیں گویا وہ قبیلہ شنوءہ کے مرد لوگوں میں سے ہیں، اور عیسیٰ بن مریم کو دیکھا تو وہ ان میں لوگوں
میں جن کو میں دیکھا ہوں عروہ بن مسعود کے زیادہ مشابہ ہیں، اور ابراہیم علیہ السلام کو دیکھا تو جن حضرات
کو میں دیکھا ہوں تو ان سے زیادہ مشابہ تمہارے صاحب ہیں اس سے مراد آپ کی ذات اقدس ہے اور
میں جبریل کو دیکھا جنہیں میں دیکھا ہوں ان میں ان سے زیادہ مشابہ دحیہ بن خلیفہ ہیں۔ (مسلم)۔

(1) His statement: “The prophets were presented to me”: This occurred either in Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa on the Night of Ascension or in the higher heavens, as indicated by the following Hadith. The meaning is that their souls were presented in the forms they had in this world, as stated by Ibn al-Malik, following a commentator from our scholars, and this is the apparent meaning. The Qadi said: Perhaps their souls were represented in these forms, or their forms were such, or the forms of their bodies were revealed to him in a dream or while awake. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله : عرض علي الأنبياء: وهو إما في المسجد الأقصى في ليلة الإسراء أو في السماوات العلى، كما يدل عليه الحديث الذي يليه، والمعنى عرض أرواحهم متشكلين بصور كانوا عليها في الدنيا، كذا ذكره ابن الملك تبعا لشارح من علمائنا، وهو الظاهر. وقال القاضي: لعل أرواحهم مثلث له بهذه الصور. ولعل صورهم كانت كذلك أو صور أبدانهم كوشفت له في نوم أو يقظة. كذا في «المرقاة».
