English

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We considered the signs as blessings 1, while you consider them warnings. We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey when water became scarce. He said, “Seek any surplus water.” They brought a vessel with a little water. He put his hand in the vessel and said, “Come to the blessed purifier, and the blessing is from Allah.” I saw water gushing from between the fingers of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and we heard the food glorifying while it was eaten.

Note 1

we considered the signs as blessings, while you consider them warnings

(1) His statement: we considered the signs as blessings, while you consider them warnings: It is clearer to say: We considered extraordinary events not preceded by a challenge, which bring blessings, as signs and miracles, while you limit extraordinary events to challenged signs entailing fear of punishment. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

Note 1
