Salamah ibn al-Akwa‘ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man ate with his left hand in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so he said, “Eat with your right hand.” The man said, “I cannot.” He said, “May you not be able 1!” Nothing prevented him but pride. He said: He could not raise it to his mouth thereafter.

Note 1
(1) His statement “May you not be able”: a supplication against him because he lied in his excuse. His statement “Nothing prevented him but pride”: meaning not inability. At-Tibi said: This is the narrator’s statement, explaining why the Prophet (ﷺ), the mercy to the worlds, invoked against him, saying: He was not prevented from eating with his right hand by inability but by pride. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)
Note 1
