He (Ibn Mas‘ud) also said: "The Prophet ﷺ, in the first two Rak‘ahs, would be as if he were sitting on hot stones until he stood up."

۱۲۸۲ - وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأَوْلَيَيْنِ كَأَنَّهُ1 عَلَى الرَّضْفِ حَتَّى يَقُوْمَ. رَوَاهُ التَّرْمِذِيُّ وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ وَالنَّسَائِيُّ.

ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے، آپ فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ
علیہ وسلم پہلی دو رکعتوں کے بعد قعدہ اولیٰ میں التحیات پڑھنے کے لئے اس طرح بیٹھتے تھے کہ گویا آپ
گرم پتھر پر بیٹھتے ہیں۔ (اور التحیات ختم کرتے ہی درود و دعاء پڑھے بغیر تیسری رکعت کے لئے)
کھڑے ہوجاتے تھے۔ (اس کی روایت ترمذی، ابوداؤد اور نسائی نے کی ہے۔
اور امام احمد رحمہ اللہ سے جو روایت آئی ہے اس میں اس طرح مروی ہے کہ
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم قعدہ اولیٰ میں التحیات پڑھتے ہوئے ”أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَّا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ
أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ“ سے فارغ ہوتے ہی فوراً (بغیر درود اور دعاء کے تیسری رکعت کے
لئے) اٹھ جاتے تھے۔

(1) His saying: "As if he were sitting on hot stones until he stood up" means that he would not remain in the first Tashahhud for long; rather, he would keep it brief and stand up quickly, as if he were sitting on a hot stone. According to our school of thought, he would suffice with the Tashahhud without the prayer (upon the Prophet ﷺ) and supplication, or according to the Shafi‘i school, he would suffice with Tashahhud and prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ without supplication. This is mentioned in "Al-Mirqat." And in another narration by Ahmad from the Prophet ﷺ: "Then if he was in the middle of the prayer, he would rise as soon as he finished his Tashahhud."

(۱) قوله: كأنه على الرضف حتى يقوم: يعني لا يلبث في التشهد الأول كثيرًا، بل يخففه ويقوم مسرعًا، كمن هو قاعد على حجر حار، فيكون مكتفيا بالتشهد دون الصلاة والدعاء على مذهبنا، أو مكتفيا بالتشهد والصلاة على الدعاء عند الشافعية. كذا في «المرقاة». وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لِأَحْمَدَ عَنِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ : ثُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ فِي وَسْطِ الصَّلَاةِ نَهَضَ حِيْنَ يَفْرُغُ مِنْ تَشَهُدِهِ.
