From him (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the world will not end until a man passes by a grave, rolls upon it, and says: ‘Would that I 1 were in the place of the occupant of this grave,’ not 2 due to religion but due to tribulation.”

٥٢٣٥ - وَعَنْهُ (رضي الله عنه) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا تَذْهَبُ الدُّنْيَا حَتَّى يَمُرَّ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى الْقَبْرِ فَيَتَمَرَّغُ عَلَيْهِ، وَيَقُوْلُ: يَا لَيْتَنِي1كُنْتُ مَكَانَ صَاحِبِ هَذَا الْقَبْرِ، وَلَيْسَ2 بِهِ الدِّينُ إِلَّا الْبَلَاءُ». رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ.

ان ہی سے روایت ہے انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے
ارشاد فرمایا: قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس کے دست قدرت میں میری جان ہے، دنیا ختم نہیں ہوگی
یہاں تک کہ ایک شخص قبر پر سے گزرے گا تو اس پر لوٹے گا اور کہے گا: اے کاش 1 اس قبر والے کی
جگہ میں ہوتا1 اور یہ اس میں دینداری کی وجہ سے نہیں صرف مصیبت کی وجہ سے ہوگا۔ (مسلم)۔

(1) His statement: “Would that I were in the place of the occupant of this grave” is due to the abundance of tribulations and fear of losing faith because of the dominance of falsehood and the prevalence of sins and evils. (As stated by Al-Kirmani)

(2) His statement: “not due to religion but due to tribulation” means, it is said, that “religion” here refers to habit, meaning rolling on the grave and wishing for death is not his habit but is driven by tribulation and hardship. Alternatively, it means this act is not due to a religious matter but due to worldly hardships. (As stated by Al-Sayyid and summarized from Al-Mirqat)

(۱) قوله: يا ليتني مكان صاحب هذا القبر وذلك لكثرة الفتن وخوف ذهاب الدين لغلبة الباطل وظهور المعاصي والمنكرات، قاله الكرماني.

(۲) قوله: وليس به الدين إلا البلاء: قيل: أراد بالدين العادة أي ليس التمرغ وتمنى الموت من عادته، وإنما حمله عليه البلاء والمشقة. وقيل: محمول على معناه أي ليس ذلك التمرغ لأمر أصابه من جهة الدين، لكن من جهة الدنيا ومشاقها، قاله السيد وملخص من المرقاة».
